The commencement of work at the MCG begins shortly after Quayclean’s workforce of more than 1200 dedicated cleaners worked 24/7 over 15 days to help deliver the best-ever Australian Open tennis tournament, attended by 1,020,763 spectators, across the Melbourne & Olympic Park (M&OP) precinct.
Quayclean CEO, Mark Piwkowski said the MCG is regarded as one of the most revered and recognisable venues across Australia and throughout the world.
“We are deeply honoured the MCC has place their faith and trust in Quayclean to deliver exceptional venue presentation services, consistently high cleaning standards, and innovative sustainability practices for over four million patrons who attend around 90 event days at the MCG every year.” said Piwkowski.
“We will contribute to an epic event day atmosphere and experience for patrons by providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment from the moment they pass through the turnstiles,” he added.
“We manage over 30,000 tonnes of waste end-to-end in partnership with our customers at venues across Australia and consistently achieve an average recycling rate of 81%,” he said.
“The MCG has a proud sustainability record, and we want to elevate this further by diverting over 80% of waste going to landfill, attain 100% recyclable packaging for all products onsite while fully complying with the Victorian Government’s single use plastic ban.
“Additionally, we are using biodegradable cleaning solutions to reduce the environmental footprint and increase worker safety. We are also investing over $1 million in the purchase of best-in-class equipment to deliver sustainable and agile cleaning solutions to ensure the MCG shines,” he added.
After a seamless back-of-house transition in recent weeks with MCC staff ahead of official on-site mobilisation, the Quayclean team is preparing for more than 600,000 fans to attend events in coming weeks.
“We will be drawing on our vast experience from past multi day events such as the Australian Open, Sydney’s Royal Easter Show, the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and numerous cricket Test matches to ensure we deliver an outstanding customer experience,” said Piwkowski.
The deal further strengthens Quayclean’s dominant standing in Melbourne’s facilities market and major stadiums across Australia.
In addition to the MCG and M&OP, Quayclean is responsible for Marvel Stadium, Southern Cross Station, Melbourne Markets Authority, Melbourne Racing Club, Parliament of Victoria, State Library Victoria plus GMHBA Stadium in Geelong in addition to numerous aquatic and leisure centres and private schools.
Quayclean also provides cleaning and waste management services to the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium, Sydney Opera House, Australian Turf Club racecourses, Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney Showgrounds, Adelaide Oval, Optus Stadium, the Gabba and McDonald Jones Stadium.
